Yes, that was a great game to watch! Going out on a limb and saying it's going to be the best game of Gather Round once again. We certainly do miss Hooper despite a very promising midfield group. Good to see him still in top form. Happy to see Charlie Clarke getting a couple of goals as well - good thing he kicked that second one after thinking better of playing on and then realizing the umpire had already paid advantage! Great performances from Louis Pinnuck, Mitch Podhajksi, Riley Bonner, Harvey Hooper, and Dom Brew in particular, and a strong all-round team performance.

Thanks for posting the link to the recording of the men's game, NorthPort.

It's too bad the women lost, but it sounds like it was a hard fought game. Unfortunately it looks like there's no way to watch the women's game after the fact - I ended up watching the men's game live, but the women's game was at 4:30 am my time. (I will get up at 4:30 in the morning if the fire alarm goes off and I have some reason to believe the building is on fire. I would probably do it to watch a grand final featuring Port Melbourne, too.)

Will have to watch replay.  Amazing the vics win in consecutive years in thrilling games.

The women's game was a better watch than the scoreline, or the fact that the VFLW side had 43 inside 50s to the SANFLW's 18, makes it sound. Those stats do make it clear where the VFLW lost the game, though. I do wonder if Nyakoat Dojiok was unavailable or overlooked by the selectors - if the latter, that's a truly bizarre decision, as having her up forward could have been the difference. But despite the inefficiency inside forward 50, both teams looked like fairly cohesive units - last season, the real difference between them seemed to be that the VFLW side operated very cohesively, whereas the SANFLW side looked like a group of players who'd never played together before. I don't know if the SANFLW side prepared any differently this season, but they did look like a coherent team. Between the arcs, both teams did have some good passages of flowing, open play. It was in the third quarter that the SANFLW side looked their best, and while Dom Carbone is a deserving winner of the VFLW best player medal, the SANFLW midfield was able to restrict her a bit more in the second half than in the first. El Chaston and Stella Reid were very good as well. The VFLW side had the stronger midfield overall, thanks in large part to Carbone and Reid, but the SANFLW key forwards showed stronger forward craft when their mids were able to get the ball forward.
