Should State cricket be free?

A comment was made by Steve Waugh, that rather than having empty grounds at state-level, that the gates should be thrown open and admission to the ground free. What do you think?

I havent been this year, due to other things, but last year it was $5 for Shield match, and $8 for an ING one-dayer.. I think I heard that it works out at being about 2-4% of their income. It is cheap, but if entry was free, I would certainly be more tempted to drop in on the last session on a Sunday afternoon... They might recoup there money on food and other stuff once inside the ground.

I have taken a day off for the first day (the Friday), and am trying to convince a couple of mates to do the same. I heard the last over or so of the match on 3LO, I didnt realise there was a great thread on bigfooty.com about it (saw your post Muesli)

But the major problem with that is that some of the clubs in State cricket would lose money if they made it free. Maybe if they made it cheaper like around $2 to entry for each member of the family. Would curtainly help some of the clubs get more people through the gates during these matches. I'm sure I would check out state cricket it, if there was a reasonable price set to enter the game.

A $2 entry fee would not pay the staff require to collect the money, you may as well make it by donation.
