Proposed State League Lighning Premiership
Body:

I have sent the following email to the Grand Finalists of each of the State leagues as well as The Leagues concerned.
-------------------------------------------------------

Proposed State League Club Lightning Premiership

I would like to see a pre season State League Club Lightning
Premiership.
This could become an annual event.

In years gone by we have had the Ardath and Escort Cup (1977/78) which
was played between the VFL, SANFL and WAFL teams. There has also been
the Australian Championships which was played between the VFL, SA, WA
and TAS Premiers. This was held in the early to mid 1970s.

The Grand Finalists from the VFL, SANFL, WAFL and TSL would be invited
to compete.
This could be held on the Sunday prior to the opening round of the WAFL.
The WAFL is normally the first of the State League competitions to start
their season.

The format would consist of the following :
Matches to be played as 2x15 minutes halves.
There will be a changeover time of 15 minutes between games.
If this becomes an annual event the states would rotate on hosting the
Pre Season Lightning Premiership. Draw for matches to be randomly drawn.
In case of a drawn match an additional five minutes played or a next
score wins. Open to debate ?

For example the following time frame would apply :
North Ballarat v Claremont 2x 15min halves 1.30pm
Swan Districts v Devonport 2x 15min halves 2.15pm
Clarence v Norwood 2x 15 min halves 3.00pm
Central Districts v Preston 2x 15min halves 3.45pm
SF one 4.30pm
SF two 5.15pm
Playoff for third 6.00pm
GRAND FINAL 6.45pm
If it was decided to play 2x 20 minute halves instead of the suggested
2x15 minute halves, this would add an extra 80 minutes to the day.
You would then need to start the day at 1.00pm and would finish around
8.05pm. With daylight savings still in use it can be done.
The Comp could be called AUSTRALIAN STATE LEAGUE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
If there was a sponsor for this comp you would naturally add the name of
the sponsor.
I am sure that their would be enough grounds in each state that could
host this comp.
WA could use Leederville Oval, SA can use Norwood Oval, VIC could use
Princes Park (Visy Park), Punt Road if it is ready or even Trevor Barker
Beach Road Oval. TAS could use Bellerive Oval (subject to availability
as it might be required for cricket), KGV Glenorchy Oval, York Park or
even North Hobart Oval
Maybe the ABC could also televise this as it would definitely be a big
boost to all the State Leagues and create great rivalry between clubs
and states.
I would like some feedback for this concept. If there is some positive
feedback may I suggest a meeting to formally put a proposal to get this
competition of and running for the 2011 season. I think it would be
great to have some sort of competition for state level. To run a
lightning premiership over one day might be easier than to hold a
competition over a few weeks.
-----------------------------------------------------
I have not received any feedback as yet but however the email was deleted without reading by one highly rated official from Northern Bullants or shall I say Carlton. Not even the courtesy or the time to read it. Disgraceful. You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar to work it is. Would the posters like to see such a competition involving the previous season's State League Grand Finalists ?
Hopefully some of the clubs might take such an idea on board ?
It might take a few that are interested and you never know ?
Digs, wouldn't you love to see the roosters take on Central Districts, Norwood, Claremont or a Clarence ?
