From vfl rewind on instagram.
Breaking News. Port Melbourne VFL team have sold their Pokie Machines. The club will no longer be affiliated with Pokie Machines.
It’s huge news from a VFL perspective. The club operated its Pokie Machines out of The Rex hotel in Bay Street Port Melbourne for close to 30 years.
It’s a similar move to what AFL clubs are doing as they withdraw from their Pokie machines as well. It’s the second VFL club we have seen Pull out of pokies with Frankston the most recent in 2015.
The club will invest in alternative revenue streams to keep the club prospering into the future.
As it currently sits this leaves a 3-4 split of standalone VFL clubs who don’t have pokies vs the 3 that do
Standalone VFL clubs Coburg, Frankston, Port Melbourne & Sandringham don’t have pokie machines while Southport,Werribee & Williamstown do.
It’s a bold move by Port Melbourne & hopefully can strengthen them long term on and off the field
