GOLD Coast Football Club were overwhelmed by a classy and committed Box Hill Hawks in their VFL game at Fankhauser Reserve today.

It was all Gold Coast in the first term but they offered nothing after that as the Hawks ran away to win, 19.16 (130) to 11.8 (74).

The Hawks had the better of the second term to lead 8.7 (55) to 6.4 (40) at half-time.

Saunders' injury may end career

GEELONG West-St Peters power forward Nathan Saunders fears the hamstring injury he sustained in Saturday's loss to Newtown & Chilwell may have ended his decorated career.

The 33-year-old former AFL and VFL player will go for MRI scans in Melbourne today to learn the full extent of an injury he described as his most painful on a footy field.

THE City of Casey denies there is a drainage problems at Casey Fields.

The Scorpions’ ground was in a deplorable condition against Sandringham in Round 9, with mud patches and pools of water near the centre. But City of Casey parks and reserves manager Trevor Griffin said there was no issue with drainage.

THE VFL could be without the Gold Coast next season with the team looking likely to join the Brisbane Lions in the Queensland league for a proposed northern conference.

AFL game development manager David Matthews said several VFL clubs had expressed strong concerns about having an eastern seaboard competition involving the Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney.
