GREATER Western Sydney is set to play VFL club Williamstown in the opening round of the new Leagues Championship Cup in April next year.
A draft fixture sent to participating clubs reveals the 16 teams set to take part in the FA-Cup style competition next year featuring the best teams from state leagues around the country - plus the Giants.

PORT Melbourne has a new Skipper.
As in not a new captain, but the delisted Hawthorn ruckman.
Wayde Skipper trained with the Boroughs last night and has committed to them for 2011.

AFL clubs may abandon their VFL affiliates and field stand-alone reserves teams from 2012.
AFL Victoria is expected to ratify the radical proposal in January as part of an extensive review.
The 12-10 player rule has already been abolished for next season, meaning VFL clubs can field as many AFL-listed players as they want.

Matthews on track

KYLE Matthews took the first step towards a comeback to the VFL when he trained with the Casey Scorpions last Monday.
Matthews missed the entire 2010 season after being bashed outside a nightclub in March.
He suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

THE honours keep coming for North Ballarat coach Gerard FitzGerald.
The three-time VFL premiership coach won the inaugural VicHealth Lindsay Gaze Sporting Conduct Award at the Victorian Sports Awards presentation at Crown Casino.
The coaching award, which recognises outstanding sportsmanship in attitude and behaviour, was presented by Gaze.
