VFL PLAYERS in search of an AFL contract have never had it better.

With the Gold Coast having eight picks in the first 13 selections at Thursday's AFL national draft, clubs are already showing a willingness to take a punt on a mature-age recruit or two, especially in the wake of the fairytale stories of 2010 - Fremantle's Michael Barlow and Geelong's James Podsiadly.

The Tigers have locked in former AFL player Wade Chapman as midfield coach and senior assistant, and Werribee Centrals premiership-winning coach Chris Gilham as reserves coach for the 2011 Victorian Football League season.

A major redevelopment of Frankston Oval received a significant boost today, with the Brumby Labor Government committing $1.5 million to the community project.

NEW Docker Peter Faulks has been backed by his former VFL boss to rapidly assert himself as Fremantle's new key backman, filling the void left by departed linchpin Chris Tarrant.

Williamstown football manager Chris Dixon said the Dockers had struck gold in trading pick No.55 in the national draft to Gold Coast for the pre-listed Faulks and selection No.61.
