The time-keepers can't even get it right. A countdown clock, in some form, would eliminate any errors of timing during the game. It is only ever established after the game there has been a mistake, that's no good to anyone. As in basketball, when an error occurs it is rectified straight away and both teams are generally satisfied with the outcome. Our timing rules are ancient and out-of-date but Robbo until I'm the CEO of the AFL or VFL tradition will always reign with the older generation, who have witnessed footy when it wasn't being played like netball at the top level.
