IT was arguably the greatest win in the Devils\' eight-year history -- daylight robbery based on pure passion and emotion.

At half-time at Burnie\'s West Park the Devils trailed fifth-placed Coburg by six goals and again halfway through the last term by 24 points.

But the Devils found something irrepressible and booted the last five goals of the game into the wind to win by a goal -- 15.11 (101) to 13.17 (95).

The final siren saw the team erupt in jubilation in front of the crowd of 3200 and the coaching staff spill out onto the ground to join their charges.

THE TASSIE Devils face their biggest test of the VFL season so far when they take on the top-of-the-table North Ballarat at Austar Arena tomorrow.
Tasmania sits sixth on the VFL ladder with three wins from its five games while the Roosters have won four and lost one.

Devils coach Daryn Cresswell said his side had been in good form in what he described as "an outstanding win" against the Casey Scorpions before last week's bye.

He said his side would go into the game quietly confident.

TASMANIA has suffered a big blow to the VFL team's engine room ahead of this weekend's away clash against North Ballarat, with key midfielder Paul Koulouriotis set to miss up to eight weeks with a cracked bone in his right foot.

The former Geelong ball magnet has been playing with discomfort since the pre-season and further damaged the injured foot at training on Monday.

X-rays yesterday confirmed the extent of the problem, with the midfielder now weighing up whether to have surgery on the foot.

Koulouriotis, 26, has been in solid form for the Devils and his loss, coupled with the unavailability of Mariners Aaron Cornelius and Mitch Robinson, will test the depth of the Devils squad.

ENDING the partial alliance with the Kangaroos has revived the Devils' spirit, says Tasmania's five-goal hero Alex Gilmour.

The Devils returned to the VFL winning list with a three-point victory over Box Hill on Sunday, despite holding the same lead at the final change and kicking into a strong wind.

"I always thought the best thing for Tasmanian footy would be as a stand-alone club," Gilmour said yesterday.

"The group is together, a close group centralised down here in Hobart.

"There is nobody flying in, flying out, trying to get AFL games, playing for themselves. It is just a group of Tasmanians all going in the one direction trying to get the same result."

The Tasmanian Devils newest recruit believes the team will be much improved after taking last year's wooden spoon.

Tasmanian-born Tim Hazell has signed with the Devils for one year.

The 26 year old utility has been with VFL rivals Port Melbourne for the past three years and also played five AFL games with Hawthorn in 2001.

Hazell says he'll be trying to help coach Daryn Cresswell improve the Devil's fortunes in 2008.

ANY young side rebuilding needs solid leadership to draw upon -- and for the Devils, boom recruit Tim Hazell fits the bill.

The former Hawthorn and Adelaide player finally put pen to paper yesterday morning, ending months of speculation he was returning home after eight years on the mainland.

A born and bred Tasmanian, Hazell has been vice-captain of VFL club Port Melbourne for the past three seasons and his experience will be invaluable for a side looking to rebuild from a horror 2007 campaign.

The Devils' hierarchy has been chasing the 26-year-old since he was de-listed by the Crows in 2004, but business interests in Melbourne have prevented him from returning home.
