Are you a VFA/VFL club member?

Was a Frankston member fairly regularly as a kid and teenager thanks to dad covering my membership, can't remember if I held a membership in 2021 as that was my first year of really getting into footy, but I've been a member for the past two years.

Been buying a membership every year since I turned 18 (long time ago)......there might be a year or two where I didn't buy one, but I can't remember them specifically.

I've been a continuous member of VFA clubs for as long as I can remember, following Camberwell and now Port Melbourne, same goes for my dad.

There has been a recent shift away from physical membership cards (by some clubs) which I think is a real shame. There is something about having a physical / tangible link to your club that I reckon will be sad to see go if the current trend continues.

Yeah NorthPort, we were given the option of whether we wanted a card this season. I chose yes of course, though evidently the card itself is no more than a token. I honestly miss the old days of having a square for each round and getting your card clipped at the gate.

I refuse to buy a membership while the bastard St Kilda FC is running the show.

Always a Dolphs member nowadays, since the AFL stopped distributing $$ to standalones the revenue from memberships is absolute lifeblood.

AJ as a child going to Camberwell games, I used to love the ticket being punched at the gate. I remember lots of clubs having different shapes, some circles, some triangles, squares and one a star.  It's a little thing but it remains a great memory as a young supporter.

Funny you mention this because I was looking at my 2019 membership card the other day and noticed the back of it had numbers from 1 to 21 on it, and the first number had been clipped. I can't remember this being a common thing as a kid but maybe they were planning on bringing it back until COVID scrapped those plans.

Yeah NorthPort, that's one of those weird little things I miss about the old days of footy too! I was both a Carlton and a Frankston member and wouldn't be satisfied if even one game wasn't clipped by season's end. I remember the bloke at Port laughing at me one day because as an away member he reckoned he didn't need to clip my ticket and I asked (probably way too strongly to sound normal haha) that he do it anyway. He looked at me like I was nuts (fair call) and did it thankfully. God forbid someone saw my ticket and thought I'd missed a game!

Billy, I'm sorry you feel that way about buying a Zebs membership, but completely understand given the circumstances there at the moment. Is there any positive news about you lot escaping the Saints' clutches? It's horrible to watch such a proud old club being stripped of its' identity like that.

Paul, am glad you still keep that connection to the place, and yes you're right, we need every member we can get. The landscape is showing no signs of getting easier for clubs like ours.
