THE Werribee Football Club has called for an urgent upgrade as players are forced to practice in decrepit facilities.

General manager Mark Penaluna last week appealed for a $100,000 grant during the council budget submissions to overhaul the clubhouse.

He said the club was in desperate need of new change rooms for players and umpires, lecture rooms, gym, rehab facilities, canteen, bar and disabled access and toilets.

“Our current bar is an emergency service caravan we had to purchase from the Salvation Army and it is forever getting vandalised,” he said.

“Our canteen facilities were used by Apex (service organisation) from about 20 years ago.

“These are some of the things we have had to use as make up facilities - and it’s just not suitable.”

Mr Penaluna said the gymnasium doubles as a change room for umpires.
