It's been reported in the Herald Sun that Sandringham are set to end the alignment with St Kilda at seasons end and will return to standalone status in 2026.

Brilliant news if it does progress.

I just wish they had done this year's ago.

If St Kilda enter their own side next year, and the Tassie Devils enter the comp we could be in for a 23 team competition!

Maybe the AFL will decide its time to withdraw the AFL sides from the competition.

Afl is going to have to look at conferences or a two-division competition if we go to 23 teams. As it is right now it's too bloated.

Hope Sandringham can revitalise themselves as a standalone club next year. I'd love to have a genuine local rival again.

For those with a Herald-Sun subscription, there is a story on the Sandy/Saints saga in today's paper

Email from the Beach Road Bunker sent to Sandy Members this morning

To our loyal and passionate Sandringham community,

In recent days there has been some press about the future of the alignment between St. Kilda and Sandringham Football Club.

In effect, St. Kilda want us to wear St. Kilda jumpers, play most of our home games at RSEA park and be renamed Sandringham Saints.

At our Board meeting it was agreed that St. Kilda's proposal would be rejected, which we have formally sent back to St. Kilda. In protecting our 96 year history we are adamant that we remain in our colours, play at our home ground, Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval and remain as the Zebras.

The club has done very well in recent years to put itself in a strong commercial position where we do have options should change occur and we will ensure the Sandringham Football Club competes at the highest level possible and is a club that offers young Bayside women and men a pathway to the AFLW and AFL, as well as a club that continues to be revered, respected and loved in our community.

We will keep you informed as we move forward but rest assured, every decision we make will be in the best interests of the Sandringham Football Club.

Go Zebs!

That's a very encouraging letter. With the addition of a at Kilda reserves next year (it  seems) and the Devils coming in as well. They might as well go will a 22 round season where everyone plays all clubs once with no byes... Or remove the AFL and NEAFL clubs.

I feel they will replicate 2021 where they had 23 teams. That year they planned a 18 round season.

Sandringham v Tasmania

From Sandy Newslettter
After a loss to Brisbane on Saturday, our VFL side is heading to Launceston this weekend as one of only a few VFL teams who have been given the opportunity to be one of the first to take on Tasmania. Our team will consist only of VFL players and we can't wait to showcase our local talent!
Game details:

  • Sunday 4 May, 2:30PM - VFL Practice Match v Tasmania at UTAS Stadium
