A LENGTHY drought will be broken or history made when the Victorian Football League and West Australian Football League clash on Saturday at North Port Oval.

The VFL last triumphed in a representative match in 2012, when it thrashed the Tasmanian State League by 108 points, with its four-year winless run started by the WAFL in 2013.

Meanwhile, the WAFL has never won a state game in Victoria, beaten in 23 matches since it first took on the VFL on away soil in 1904.

Nine players with AFL experience will pull on the Big V jumper this weekend, including Cam O’Shea (Northern Blues), Eli Templeton (Port Melbourne) and Andrew Moore (Box Hill Hawks).

VFL 2016 1st Semi Final - Williamstown v Sandringham

FORMER Saint Eli Templeton heads a list of ex-AFL players who are lining up for Victoria in a state representative game between the VFL and the WAFL on Saturday.

Templeton – who was delisted by the Saints last year - is in sizzling form in the VFL and has had more disposals than any other player.

Other former AFL players named in the VFL squad are Templeton's old St Kilda teammate Brodie Murdoch, delisted Port defender Cam O'Shea, and former Port and Richmond mid Andrew Moore.

There are 14 former AFL players in the WAFL squad, including ex-Bomber Leroy Jetta.

Jetta was delisted by Essendon at the end of 2014 but had to sit out of football last year due to the widespread doping ban that was served to 34 past and present Bombers involved in the club's now infamous 2012 supplements program.

The game is on at North Port Oval from 2.10pm AEST and will be broadcast live on Channel Seven from 2pm.

HAVING lost its past three matches, the VFL is out to restore its standing in the state leagues when it hosts the WAFL at North Port Oval on Saturday.

Here are the players the Vics are leaning on to defeat the best of the west.

RELATED: WAFL chases first win on Victorian soil

Sam Switkowski (Box Hill Hawks): much improved player who has established himself in a strong Hawks team. There isn’t much of him but there is no better tackler in the VFL, a feature of the pressure he bears as a small forward.

Nick Rippon tackles Richmond's Nathan Drummond. Picture: Michael Klein

Nick Rippon (North Ballarat): consistent and classy wingman who won the JJ Liston Trophy in 2015. Went forward to slot three goals against the SANFL last year.

Tom O’Sullivan (Port Melbourne): crafty onballer who uses his hands with the dexterity of a pickpocket. The son of long-time Carlton official and former VFA player Shane.

Nick Hind (Essendon): been a surprise package for the Dons this season and richly deserved his squad selection. The pacy defender/onballer joined Essendon from Ballarat club East Point last year.

The North Ballarat Football Club says it gave the City of Ballarat five months’ notice of its intention to stage a night Victorian Football League fixture this weekend, which has since been rescheduled.

Confusion: The North Ballarat Football Club says it indicated its intention to play a night match at Eureka Stadium against Williamstown to the City of Ballarat in December. Picture: Skyline Drone Imaging.

The Roosters were originally set to take on Williamstown under lights at Eureka Stadium on Friday night, however the fixture was shifted to Saturday afternoon after the council told the club last week the facility, which is still under construction, was not fit for a night match.

In a statement the club said all VFL fixtures were completed prior to Christmas, however City of Ballarat director of community development Neville Ivey said council indicated to the club back in 2016 that night games should not be scheduled during the construction phase.

“We made it clear to the club that scheduling any night games during the construction phase wouldn’t be wise,” Mr Ivey said.  “Pretty much from day one when we said we were going to build a stadium we’ve shared that (night games) really shouldn’t be an option.”

While eight new lights were installed around the oval last year, further lighting will be constructed on the two stands to help visibility on the ground.

“We never stated we would be ready (to hold night fixtures) by this time.”

The confusion comes after the club indicated it would likely challenge the compensation offer of $5.5 million for the compulsory acquisition of the Eureka Stadium precinct.
