Concerns for ground as Bombers say no to QEO

THE Metricon Bendigo Bombers won't play their first home game of the VFL season at the Queen Elizabeth Oval until next month.
The Bombers were scheduled to play Geelong at the QEO this Sunday in their round six clash, but following an inspection of the ground yesterday, the game has been transferred to Skilled Stadium.

Officials from the Bombers, Geelong and VFL don't deem the ground surface to be in a satisfactory condition to host the VFL match this weekend.

"There are a lot of concerns, mainly through the middle of the ground about the unevenness and lack of grass cover," Bombers' general manager Matthew Allan said.

"Through the middle of the ground it gets a bit sandy and there is no grass cover, some bits are very firm and it's patchy in other parts.

ALAN SCHUBACK PICKS 6

He can now buy a few cans and sink a few at the can Hill end of Trevor Barker Oval. Another $30 will go to the tipster who selects 6 winners in Round 6. If more than one tipster selects 6 it will go to the tipster nearest the aggregate score for the Box Hill v Northern Bullants clash (ABC match of the day). If no tipster selects 6 winners it will jackpot to the following week.

TWO TIPSTERS SHARE AGGREGATE SCORE

Two tipsters Carmine 'Mudassar Nazar' Miranda an old Dandenong Red legs supporter in the days of Herman Van De Beek and Eddie Melai shares the aggregate score with Rick Woodstock who is on the Coburg bandwagon as he is a Richmond supporter. Pity the poor tigers after the flogging Geelong gave them. Each collect $20 each. By the way Mudassar is also a Richmond supporter.

The next aigrette score will be the Round 7 match between Tasmania v Coburg at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

EIGHT EQUAL LEADERS- TIGHT AT THE TOP

Alan Schuback courtesy of his 6 winners shares the lead with Alex Boyke, seagull/zebra Blackrocker Doug Newington, Geelong and old Geelong West fan Brett Gillett, Taswegian Gavin Inglis, old red leg Mudassar, novice Olga Starks and old Oakleigh fan Peter 'Willo' Williamson who wore a duffle coat with John Cunningham on it.

TRUenergy VFL Fixture Amendment

The TRUenergy Victorian Football League advise of the following amendment to the VFL fixture, Bendigo Bombers vs. Geelong Round 6, due to the condition of the QE Oval surface.

1. Bendigo Bombers vs. Geelong has been rescheduled from QE Oval to Skilled Stadium on Sunday 13th May, 2007. The match will now be an AFL Curtain Raiser and will commence at 9.40am.

2. Bendigo Bombers vs. Werribee (Reserves) has been reschedule from QE Oval on Sunday 13th May to Bartercard Oval, Werribee on Saturday 12th May, 2007. The match will now be a Curtain Raiser to the Werribee vs. Tasmania match and will commence at 11.10am.

3. Round 20 - Geelong vs. Bendigo Bombers has been rescheduled from Skilled Stadium on Sunday 26th August, 2007 to QE Oval on Saturday 25th August, 2007. The match will now commence at 2.00pm

4. Round 20 - Bendigo Bombers vs. North Ballarat (Reserves) has been rescheduled from Sunday 26th August, 2007 to Saturday 25th August, 2007. The match will now commence at 11.10am

Dolphins lack punch

THE Dolphins had a dip, but reigning premiers Sandringham refused to buckle.


After quelling Frankston's final quarter tilt, Sandy steadied to record a 24-point win in front of a good crowd at Frankston.

Bolstered by a bunch of Melbourne-listed players, the Zebras had a bit too much polish for the never-say-die Dolphins.   It was Sandringham's fifth straight win.

Frankston coach Brett Lovett said the Dolphins were lively but lacked a knockout punch.

``We're certainly not into good efforts any more down here,'' he said.   ``I thought we had our opportunities throughout the day but just failed to hurt them when we were going forward, particularly in the second quarter when I felt we had control of the play and we weren't able to hit targets across half forward or finish off with goals.''

Apart from the opening quarter when Frankston got off to a flier when Aaron Murray booted three goals in the opening 10 minutes, none of the Dolphins' ``bigs'' fired.

 Instead, if was left to livewires Justin Berry and Ricky Morris to kick a winning score. They were gallant, but they needed support.
