Roosters won't relax

THERE are those who naively tell North Ballarat Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald that today’s game is a free win already – no stress, easy points.

FitzGerald said it was “a bit too convenient” of an assessment.

Frankston is no longer the cellar-dweller easy beat of the Victorian Football League.

Already this season, the Dolphins have nabbed wins against traditional heavyweight Port Melbourne and Collingwood, a team that defeated the Roosters by 52 points in round one.

This is no fluke.

THE Casey Scorpions led by 34 points at three-quarter-time against Williamstown on Saturday night at Casey Fields.

Was it enough? That was the question.

Willy were finishing with a wind whistling to the entrance end of the ground. The bulk of the scoring had been done there. Here was a stern test for the Scorpions.

They passed it, so brilliantly they held Willy to two goals, kicked one themselves and won by 23 points to stay unbeaten after four rounds.

Supported by the midfielders, the backline held together in the face of fierce pressure in the first few minutes of the final quarter. Willy attacked relentlessly but scored only points.

SANDRINGHAM was unfancied against Werribee but ultimately untroubled and ultra impressive.

A blazing second half speared the Zebras to their first victory of the season, a 64-point triumph at Chirnside Park on Saturday that will have the bookies hastily revising the premiership market.

Who would have thought it would turn into a fat percentage earner for a Sandy side that fronted up for the match with only a draw to show from its first three matches?

It turned into a romp after the Zebras, using a strong wind, booted eight goals in the third quarter.

Andrew Krakeour, Darren Jolly and Alan Didak were Collingwood's best players as the Pies scored a big win over the Bendigo Gold at the QEO earlier tonight.

The Gold challenged the Magpies early, but the visitors had too much class in a 116-point victory.

Final scores: Bendigo 9.6 (60) defeated by Collingwood 25.26 (176).

Luke Ball made a welcome return to footy for the first time in more than a year for Collingwood and appeared to get through the match unscathed.
