The Port Melbourne Football Club wishes to advise all members and supporters of a change in time and venue for our last set of home-and-away games against Geelong (Peter Jackson VFL) and Coburg (AFL Victoria Development League) in Round 21 of the Victorian Football League this weekend. Initially, the fixture indicated that these games would be played at North Port Oval on Saturday 27th August 2016, with a start time of 10:00am for the Development League game against Coburg, followed by the Seniors taking on Geelong at 2:00pm.

This article appeared during the week detailing the continuing problems facing North Port Oval that have plagued the playing surface in recent weeks.

Hopefully  the ground conditions improve and we have some drier weather in the lead up to September action or the VFL may consider moving games away from the ground.

 

Werribee coach John Lamont inspires VFL side to win over Northern Blues

WERRIBEE coach John Lamont referenced mosquitos and camels in a bid to inspire his team to victory in Sunday’s VFL clash against Northern Blues.

“Who’s been bitten by a mosquito? All of us, we all have been,” Lamont said to his players in the three-quarter-time huddle.

“Not many of us have been bitten by a camel, have we?

“It’s the little things that bite you.”

His words of wisdom had the desired effect as the Tigers booted 11 goals in the final half-hour and toppled the Blues by 63 points, 25.15 (165) to 15.12 (102), at Avalon Airport Oval.

Lamont’s address has since received plenty of attention on social media.

“It’s the little things that bite you — that was the crux of it,” he said today.

“As a coach you use things like that. It might resonate and stick in their head a bit more.

“They had a bit of a laugh and took the piss out of the coach a bit afterwards, but hopefully it sticks with them a little bit.

“I felt that we just made a few little errors that were costly.
