Werribee has set up a semi-final showdown against its western arch rival Williamstown after a gutsy 37-point win over North Ballarat in an elimination final at North Port Oval on Sunday.

While the rivalry between the two simmered over the off-season, after the Werribee-contracted Scott Clouston crossed to the Seagulls and was the difference when these two teams last met, the Tigers will be keen to end an 11-game losing streak in a knockout final.

Williamstown's 20-point loss to Footscray has put it in a vulnerable position. The Seagulls, the Foxtel Cup premiers this year, will be forced to earn it if they are to make their first VFL grand final since 2011. If they get past Werribee next week they will face reigning premier Box Hill in the preliminary final.

Werribee, with only three North Melbourne-listed players, was admirable on Sunday, especially because it was down two rotations. It lost its skipper and top ball-winner Jarrad Moore with concussion from the first term and Kieran Harper with a right ankle injury in the third term.
