What a fantastic achievement by Fitzy, 300 games as a coach & a lot more to come.
I am very proud of the fact that I was one of a selection panel that firstly interviewed him & his wife for the coaching role at North Ballarat at the end of 1996 & secondly a member of the board that appointed him. Certainly an inspired choice.
I cannot recall a more popular person in footy & continually strives for the utmost professional approach for both players & people.
After a failed attempt at politics in Ballarat in which he describes as a bad career choice he was appointed coach of Springvale for 2 years then a stint at Port Melbourne for 1 year wher he took them to a grand final, only to be beaten by a kick & a very poor umpiring decision which he has never complained about. For all that achievement he got SACKED !!! Can you believe that.
He returned to North Ballarat to coach the Rebels then was reappointed coach of the Roosters & as they say the rest is history.
A very humble person who will be forever grateful to the North Ballarat Footbal Club for giving an untried at this level bush footy coach an opportunity.
All at North Ballarat are very proud of him.
