THE Roosters' premiership defence is officially under way, with more than 30 new faces at North Ballarat's first training session at Eureka Stadium last night.

More than 50 Roosters and Rooster hopefuls took part in a shortish, sharp session as the club prepares to chase its fourth consecutive flag in 2011.

The hopefuls included ex-North Ballarat Rebels Marcus Darmody and Pat Barber, former Geelong Falcon Levi Dare, and potential Ballarat Football League "graduates" Daniel Tung (East Point) and Daniel Ross-Smith (North Ballarat City).

North Ballarat senior coach Gerard FitzGerald said there was an opportunity for the newcomers to break into the Roosters line-up for next season, despite the club's success.
