Phil Cleary's column in Inside Football of 9 June reiterates the folly of the VFL promoting itself as only being in existence to produce AFL players.
This form of marketing downgrades the VFL and does nothing to advance its standing. The VFL needs to be promoted as a seperate senior football competition in its own right, not as blatantly subservient to the AFL.
VFL hierarchy needs to stand up to the media’s negative "reserves" tags so often applied to the competition.
VFL matches have much to offer football fans including "family-friendly and intimacy" as Phil wrote.
