This has been something I've grizzled about over the years, but can anyone tell me why Port and Frankston have named eight players on the bench for Saturday's game?
Two stand alone sides, within 48 hours of the match. AFL clubs name 22 and three emergencies. Surely VFL clubs should be obliged to do the same - particularly in clashes between stand alone sides.
But if thats not stupid enough, what's wrong with the Werribee reserves side? They've named 13 (yes 13) players on the bench!!! That's pretty much every fit player on their list named in their senior and reserves sides. To claim it's because their team hasn't been picked yet is bullocks, the players required for the Reserves have been told and not trained with local clubs tonight, while those not required have trained locally.
Total nonsense isn't it? Time for AFL Victoria to show a bit of power and enforce some sort of rule for clubs to follow.
