About what you'd expect for a practice match at this time of year. Low standard with both teams looking to be in second gear, although Frankston kicked it up a notch or two in the last quarter. Newman going into the middle looked to spark them up.
Great to see Nathan Freeman going around again. In good form already, looks really fit, and I have it on good authority that his hammies are now 110% and no longer a problem . (Hope I havet mozzed him) It was great to see him running at full pace and kicking the ball long. Barring injuries he looks to be in for a super year.

I think the Bullants would be pretty happy to have been competitive and in the contest right to the end. New list and all. Frankston started brilliantly and then slept from the 5 minute mark of the first to the end of the second. Second half was much better. I think there were a lot of kids out there who probably won't be on the park in round one. All in all a nice hitout for a practice match for both sides, and a decent competitive match for the footy-starved fans down here.
Lights werre absolutely brilliant. Noticed that only half of them were on, but that was still plenty of light. Gee the night got cold.....I do hope that most of the night games are early season. Can only imagine how cold it could get in June/July with the wind whipping in off the bay!
I'm probably gonna piss off some Frankston stalwarts here though.....thought it was piss poor that the snack bar wasn't in operation with a decent crowd on hand at night. We decided to not have dinner before going down there and ended up having to get maccas on the way home. If it was advertised somewhere in the pre-game promos I apologise, but the game was well promoted and I didn't see anything saying there'd be no food or drink available.
One last gripe.....my stepdad and I were having a dart pre-game, at about 6:45 before many people were in attendance. Fair enough a bloke came out and asked us to put them out as the ground is completely smoke free. Done, happy to comply.....until 25 minutes later when the idiot brigade under the scoreboard turn up, most of them obviously intoxicated and happily smoking throughout the night. I saw at least 5 occasions when club officials came up and spoke to them happily, completely ignoring the fact that most were smoking. I really have to question why these blokes are given free reign at Frankston. Honestly they're a bloody embarassment to the club and to the town. Their constant abuse of opposition players and coaches is woeful. That Josh Fraser had to walk through these morons to get to the quarter time and three quarter time huddles and listen to their ridiculous crap made me cringe. I notice so often how we don't get families coming down to support the club and reckon these boofheads have a lot to do with that. What parent wants their kids thinking this is ok? I'm sure some would argue that without these blokes Frankston don't have much of a supporter base.....I personally would argue that they're the reason we don't. Hardly a game goes by where opposition supporters don't lose their patience and end up mouthing off at them. Time to grow up fellas, because you're dinosaurs from a dark age of VFA footy, and a blight on our town.
The toilets on the scoreboard side of the ground and next to the Frankston rooms were locked, which was a major inconvenience for a number of ederly people watching on that side of the ground. Also there are no lights in the grandstand. The club needs to address this quickly as it is very dangerous situation to have. Hard to believe the kiosk was closed. With a crowd of 500-700 expected there was going to be people to feed and money to be made.
Re the 'riff raff' supporters. I love their passion for the club and the support they give, but at times they go overboard. I moved away from watching the game in that area years ago as I found the language, the vilification of high profile opposition players, coaches and umpires offensive, and it became a bit much week in week out. Society has moved on from this type of behaviour and these guys need some education.
Looking foward to Good Friday's game against Coburg. We will get a much better picture of where The Dolphins are at after this game.
Southport vs Aspley practice game today at 11am local time will now be played South Pines Sports Complex
Appears to me that nothing has changed on the hill at Frankston. !
The Roosters in their time had a very attractive Physitherapist who was the victim of from some disgusting comments from the mob. Believe me I am no choir boy but the vitriol this girl received was downright sickening.
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
Bearsman, you're absolutely right.....the grandstand must have some lighting if we're playing there at night, wow. I imagine that's just been an oversight and I bet Robbo has already alerted someone at the club about it. Yes, the toilets too is an issue, can't believe someone didn't ensure they'd be open, particularly once they knew they'd have over 500 people at the game. I don't want to be too critical of the club as I know it's largely run by hardworking volunteers.....but we have to do better than this for a state league competition. The whole look is very amateur.
Digs - am very sorry, but not at all surprised to hear what your physio was subjected to. All I can say is that to the majority of Frankston supporters this behaviour is not what we want to be associated with. I felt awful for not calling them out on their conduct on Thursday night.....but sitting there with my fairly quiet son I didn't want to spark trouble. A bit cowardly on my part I guess. Particularly when they tried to bait Josh Fraser as he walked by was just galling. Next time I won't just sit there, I've had enough. I go to plenty of away games and often if I go to buy a pie or a drink I see the cringe from people when they see my Frankston scarf - it's assumed I'll be feral like those blokes. I'm not gonna continue to let these pricks represent our image in the VFL if I can help it.
Oh, and what makes it worse, I see the loudest of their protagonists at the occasional away game.....where he sits very quietly and doesn't make a peep, not without his cronies to back him up. Gutless wonder.

I'm with you, Frankston is fantastic fooball club & I have made some great friends from the past down there.
Guess you'll never get rid of the ferals who destroy the spectacle of the event for everybody !
