Box Hill Hawks have adopted a new jumper for the next two years to recognise
their growing relationship with the Hawthorn Football Club.
The new design features a brown Hawthorn Hawk on a yellow background and
includes the Mustang logo.
Unveiled at the club’s jumper presentation night yesterday, the alternate strip
will be worn against non-VFA clubs Bendigo, North Ballarat, Collingwood, Geelong
and Gold Coast.
The traditional Mustangs jumper will still be worn against VFA rivals including
Coburg, Port Melbourne, Williamstown and Sandringham.
Box Hill president John Ure said the jumper change reflected the strong
partnership between the club and its AFL affiliate.
“We are extremely proud of our Mustang heritage,†Ure said.
“Having the Whitehorse on the jumper has been very important to us, but on the
other hand we haven’t been the Mustangs since 1999.
“We are now the Hawks and we reviewed the club’s image as a progressive club and
want to present ourselves as a progressive club in a fashion that’s attractive
and marketable.â€
Both jumpers will be worn for the next two seasons before members are given the
opportunity to provide feedback.
“We’re going to assess the feedback, whether it’s positive or negative, with a
view to making a decision at the end of 2011 to what the club’s playing guernsey
should be from 2012 onwards,†Ure said.
Meanwhile, the Hawks also announced their leadership group for the 2010 season
with Steve Kenna retaining the captaincy outright.
The leadership group consists of Kenna, Sydney Swans recruit Luke Ablett, Sam
Gibson, Shaun Pollard, Ed Curnow, Brad Neil, Hayden Kiel and Cameron Pedersen.
