The Northern Blues Football Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Josh Fraser as the new senior coach.

Fraser comes to the club after spending the last two years as the senior coach of the Gold Coast Suns’ reserves side in the North East Australian Football League, taking the side from a winless campaign in 2014 to an eight-win season in 2015.

Rich with AFL experience, Fraser made 218 appearances at the highest level in his playing days for both Collingwood and the Suns, in a career spanning 13 seasons. He is also a former number one draft pick, and played in Collingwood’s 2002 and 2003 Grand Finals.

Fraser left the Suns’ coaching post at the end of last season to return home to Victoria.

O’Sullivan said the club was delighted to have Fraser lead the club from 2016.

“We’re thrilled: we think right from the start the appointment of Josh will be a terrific appointment,” O’Sullivan said.

“He cut his coaching teeth at the Gold Coast at difficult circumstances and this was something he really wanted to do: he’s very passionate about his direction.

“You look at his career - he played over 200 games of AFL footy and was a number one draft pick. He knows the pressures so that kind of experience will be invaluable for both our boys and the Carlton-listed players.”

His appointment as the newest coach of the Northern Blues comes after being adjudged the best candidate from the coaching selection committee.

Chaired by Andrew McKay, the selection panel featured Northern Blues President Stephen Papal, General Manager Garry O’Sullivan, Carlton premiership player Ken Sheldon and new Carlton coach Brendon Bolton.

“We had an outstanding field of candidates so it was an exhaustive process, but we’re definitely confident we have our right man,” O’Sullivan said.

O’Sullivan said he was confident that Fraser was the man to take the Club forward after a difficult stretch.

“He speaks very well, is passionate and has covered many aspects of the game in a short stretch: hopefully this will prove to be a fruitful appointment for all parties involved,” O’Sullivan said.

“With his past playing and coaching experience as well as his man management skills, Josh is the man to take us forward and bring us to a place where we want to be.”

Fraser will take on a development role at Carlton.

* It's time to restore the VFA name.

Hopefully he speaks better than Webster did. He may have been a good coach in other areas, but his addresses were ordinary.

I hope he's more committed than he appeared to be when playing for Collingwood's VFL team a few years ago.
He was Captain at the time, I think, and after losing to Port he left the ground laughing.
Not a good look!

He was a Gumby with Collingwood VFL team. Howard Leigh use to wrap him up. Josh Fraser full page write up. He got 3 kicks 2 handballs.

Got no idea on how he will go as a coach. Maybe Carlton seconds and Josh Fraser could be a perfect match. LOL

In 2014 coached the Gold Coast Suns to a winless season in the NEAFL so knows a thing or two about getting flogged which will come in handy coaching the Bad News Blues.

For a minute there thought we were going to have to start taking them seriously.
