Fitzry Football Club
Body:
Just noticed this thread on Bigfooty.com and found it pretty interesting, i'm assuming the Roylion on bigfooty is the same who has posted a bit on this site:
The motion that was approved last night at the AGM was: 1. That approval be given to the Fitzroy Reds Committee of Management to enter into a merger agreement with the Fitzroy Football Club (FFC) Ltd. whereby; i. The President, Vice President, Treasurer and two other members of committee (i.e. the Fitzroy Reds) would be appointed to the Fitzroy Football Club Ltd. Board of Management, which consists of no more than ten directors of that Club. ii. The current Secretary of the FFC is the (nominated) Secretary of the Fitzroy Reds at this AGM . 2. The FFC Ltd. will pay out all of the Club’s liabilities now existing to the Victorian Amateur Football Association, (VAFA) and the City of Yarra for ground hire. 3. The Fitzroy Reds Football Club will relinquish its membership of the VAFA and transfer its membership to the FFC Ltd. 4. All Club property and assets will be transferred to the FFC Ltd. 5. The new entity will be known as the FFC Ltd. incorporating the Fitzroy Reds. 6. All members and players of the Fitzroy Reds will be offered membership of the new entity. 7. All Life Members of the Fitzroy Reds will retain their rights and privileges under the new entity. 8. The football teams under the management of the new entity will be known as FITZROY. 9. The new entity will honour and respect the traditions and history of the Fitzroy Reds and the Old Redders – The Reds Foundation. Apparently the jumper and nickname will be decided in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully Fitzroy's red, blue and gold jumper of 75-96 will be the chosen jumper. As for the nickname...I'd definitely prefer the 'Lions'. Maybe the Maroons. Definitely not the Gorillas though. \ Whatever happens, in 2009 the Fitzroy Football Club will be fielding football sides for the first time since 1996 and moreover at their traditional home of the Brunswick Street Oval for the first time since 1966.
