Northern Bullants V Coburg
Body:
Very solid performance from the Bullants, with the win set up by a dominant first half. The game had the hallmark of a rout as the Bullants went out to a 37 point lead at the main break, but Coburg gave the large pro-tigers crowd something to cheer about in the second half, as they pegged the margin back to 27 points with some spirited play. The half-time margin could have been bigger but for some poor goalkicking from Digby Morrell. Morrell was very good for about 10 minutes in the second term but faded after that. The Bullants trade mark attack on the ball was back after an indifferent performance against Box Hill the previous week. Justin Davies was again the Bullants best and would almost be a ceratin starter for Carlton next week. Others midfielders to feature for the Bullants were Glen Bowyer, Jess Smith and Cory McGrath. Josh Vansittart and Justin Crow were also solid down back with Vansittart shuting down Rory Hilton and Crow doing yet another fine job, this time on Jay Schultz. To date Crow's form has been outstanding as he has continued to shadow the best that the VFL has to offer. His form should see rewarded with a spot in the VFL representive side. Other positives for the Bullants were Delcan Donaghue making his debut for the club and Rohan Williams playing his first game for the season. Donaghue will be much better for the experience and will continue to improve as he adapts to the higher level of senior football. Williams was reasonable up forward, generally providing a contest. For Coburg Andrew Raines was impressive on a wing. His long kicking being a feature of the game.
