WILLIAMSTOWN champion Brett Johnson has called a close to his distinguished VFL career.

The former Hawthorn and Carlton left-footer told Seagulls officials that greater work responsibilities (he is with the AFL Players Association) would prevent him from playing on.

WILLIAMSTOWN dismantled top-four co-tenant Bendigo Bombers in ruthless fashion on Saturday, but skipper Brett Johnson is adamant his side is yet to find its best form.

The Seagulls dominated the match after quarter-time at Queen Elizabeth Oval to post an emphatic 25.16 (166) to 13.9 (87) win.
