AFL Victoria has turned its back on the prospect of playing VFL finals at Victoria Park this September.
Yarra Council gave permission for the finals to be held at the famous ground over three weekends on condition that temporary fencing be placed around the oval.
Councillors had voted to consider the possibility of placing signage around the ground supporting a Doncaster rail link to capitalise on ABC broadcasting of the games.
But AFL communications and marketing manager Anthony Stanguts said the cost of the temporary fencing and issues around parking and access for the broadcast partners were the main reasons for the rejection.

Cranbourne anyone?
Why not Craigeburn or Kilsyth or Doveton or West Heidelburg or Skinner Reserve Sunshine?
All are about the same souless windswept place as Casey Fields.
The VFL should bite the bullet and see if the Junction Oval can be used in future.
Toorak Park for me.
I dont think the Ammos will give it up!
Quicker & easier to get to Ballarat than Casey Billy,
Although I think most clubs would prefer to play Port Melbourne at Casey rather than at Port.
Love the VFL grand final at Etihad Stadium.
Without Collingwood in the Finals there is no Point
Your a dickhead
Seems like a ridiculous comment to me. It might have even generated some money for Collingwood.
Can some bright spark at AFL Victoria explain the advantage Casey Fields has over Victoria Park for finals?
Bright sparks don't belong at AFL Victoria.
For the second week of finals they should have played the games at the highest ranked team's home ground. Imagine Bendigo v Geelong at Casey Fields ??
The difference between playing there or at QEO if Bendigo were higher ranked is poles apart.
