A SPEEDY Northern Bullants are set to test reigning premier North Ballarat's pace in Friday night's VFL grand final after making Port Melbourne appear slow in its upset 21-point preliminary final victory at TEAC Oval yesterday.

Carlton speedster Chris Yarran was flashy and best on ground with five goals and 25 disposals, providing a backbone for what could be the beginning of an ominous 2010 campaign.

Yarran, who was the No. 6 selection in the 2008 AFL draft, and his Blues sidekick Jeff Garlett, controlled proceedings in a dominant second term where the Bullants piled on six unanswered goals to steer a nine-point quarter-time buffer out to 43-points at the main break.

Bullants coach David Teague believes Yarran and Garlett - who loom as the Bullants' secret weapons - will be even more effective at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

Teague said although the Bullants’ own list was thinner than last year’s, when it made the elimination finals, Carlton’s list would make them stronger.

“I think we’ll get some real depth from Carlton.
