Well using Williamstown's logic Geelong are aiming for their 20th premiership this season:
VFA/VFL: 1878, 1879, 1880, 1882, 1883, 1884, 1886, 2002, 2007, 2012
VFL/AFL: 1925, 1931, 1937, 1951, 1952, 1963, 2007, 2009, 2011
So when Geelong beat Richmond tonight they can use the #Chasing20. LOLs
I want to see all the stand alone VFA clubs do well, I even want a strong Williamstown in the comp. However, being a Port Melbourne supporter there is no way I can barrick for Williamstown to win. They're our oldest enemy, the team we love to hate and may the rivalry go on for many more years.
This thread has created alot of discussion about who Port (and other fans) are going to follow this weekend. Ask this question a few decades ago and the answer given by Port fans would have been overwelmingly anybody who played against Williamstown. The times are definetelly changing though.
In a poll that 75 people participated in, Port fans voted on who they were supporting in the grand final. Out of those 75 (this is a current number as the poll is still active) 18 said they did not care - only a mere 5 voted for Richmond whilst suprisigly 52 people voted for Williamstown!! George Ogilvie, Henry Parazzo, Norm Goss would all be turning in their graves !

Very interesting Mega. I guess most fans of the VFL despite who you follow, now see the AFL ,as the biggest enemy out there - I know I do. I think a lot of Port supporters, even though they hate Willy, would admire them in some small ways, and vice versa for Willy fans. Doubt anyone following the VFL would admire anything about the AFL reserves teams and also the clubs that have taken over and destroyed the old VFA clubs.
VFA all the way whether it be Willy, port, coburg, werribee or Frankston. From me full on support for the vfa teams than afl reserves teams.
I agree with you Bearsman regarding admiring Williamstown. I can't speak on behalf of every supporter however although I am not a Williamstown fan I think they do have some admirable qualities. These include the profesionalism of the club, their ability to attract the leagues highest membership count and their on field performace - havent missed a prelim in over a decade.
As for hatred - I think most of the aggresive hate between the two clubs died years ago, sure theirs some that would use that strong word HATE to describe Wiliamstown but I think the majority of supporters from both camps see the other as a strong club that they love to beat due to both clubs onfield success. Of course i'm generalising - their is exceptions to this - such as the time when I was in Spotswood and somebodies very 1st question to me was "which footy team do you support" - after answering Port Melbourne the 2nd thing he said to me was "WELL YOU CAN GO GET F!@#$D" lol.
Comeng, looks like good old Williamstown is at it again. This time they are quoting 25,000 people attended Downer oval this season. That would be 2,500 per game which is very misleading as the only game that perhaps came close was v Port as Port brings the numbers. All other games were significantly lower. Will this club ever stop it's half truths ? Will good old Williamstown be doing this forever ?
I must admit I had a little chuckle when I read that mega,in fairness they did say “games and events”,most vfl grounds look almost deserted with the average crowd probably less than a thousand.Propaganda is alive and well.
I applaud you for your honesty and not trying to defend your clubs statement. When I saw that you had replied I thought you were going to try and defend the undefendable !!
Is it fair to put Coburg in the misquoting of facts category when they are claiming the 2nd highest membership count by adding pets as members ? Did anybody care to ask the pet who they supported ?
If animals were to be counted as members of clubs I would think Port would have the biggest count as opposition supporters have often claimed Port Melbourne members are a PACK OF DOGS, snakes, RATS, WORMS, VULTURES ETC ETC
Northport oval more than just a football ground - a animal sanctuary according to our rivals !
No dogs allowed at North Port Oval - just ask Trevor Monti ......
