Keep up the great work Easty

Sandringham played St Kilda in practice matches once at Linton Street in the 1970s and later when Lindsey Fox was Pres and Jesaulenko was coach in the early 1980s at Beach Road Oval
The Zebras hung in there for 3/4rs but St Kilda drew away with better fitness and talent in the last quarter. There was quite a good crowd of about 5000.

In some games The VFA teams beat the SANFL and WAFL teams in the Ardath and Escort Cup games.
Yet in other games the VFL clubs lost to the SANFL and WAFL teams in the night comp. The worst case was Carlton getting flogged by Norwood in 1976. Norwood booted 22.14.146 to Carlton 5.10.40 at Norwood Oval. Remember watching it on TV and loving every minute of it.
I went to the Lakeside Oval to see Coburg knock off East Perth and Dandenong beating Central Districts at Lakeside Oval.

Good pick-up, Billy!

I've had a look through my notes and found two games between Sandringham and St Kilda, played in 1980 and 1982. Nothing in there about a game in the 1970s at Moorabbin though.

I've added those 80/82 games to the table on HardBallGet.net - if anyone has info of any other VFA vs VFL games please let me know.

Clarry, there's a mystery you've created! Moncrieff did his knee in the '84 pre-season so there might be another Sandy-St Kilda game then.

No mention of it in my notes and the Google News archives for The Age are full of holes for March 1984, so that's about as far as I can take it for the moment.

In the old days I'd duck in to the State Library and check their newspaper microfilm but it's a little far away now I'm in Canada! If anyone has a copy of the programme from an '84 match or feels inspired to head down the SLV I'd love more info.

If there was a Sandringham-St Kilda match that year it would have been first weekend in March (rest of the pre-season Saints played Collingwood at Ballarat on the 11th, Queensland up north on the 18th and Richmond at MCG on the 24th).
