After spending all the money on the ground over the last couple of years why was it such so chopped up on the weekend? It was reminiscent of North Port Oval in the 2010 finals series, however a lot more football was played on North Port during those finals. Wasn't adequate drainage put in as part of the redevelopment?
I wonder if Carlton will let their players on that surface if it doesn't improve in the next two weeks.

For those not at the ground it was basically mud all over the oval. Think about how the centre of a ground goes muddy due to cricket wickets being underneath, well the whole surface was like that.
Not sure another game will start there in 2012.
Yeah.. not good!
Are we being a little precious?
I've seen heaps worse Box Hill and Preston back in the day.
The playing ground was not too flash at all but the upstairs facilities with the viewing are excellent. In the summer months I would expect plenty of upstairs functions.
The surface will take time to knit into the dirt, however 2013 it will be top shelf guys.It was a shame that the rain couldnt hold off till Sunday, but hey it was a epic game and better there then say Box Hill City Oval if Hooky had his way.

Doesn't look great in those photos, but a lot of grounds are starting to look like that at the end of a very wet winter.
Williamstown have ended up with a lot of home games in the back half of the year and a new surface probably needs a week off here and there to regenerate. They've probably played too many games on it too quickly.
People couldnt even get out to the huddle!
Yep in the past Coburg,Preston,Dandenong,Oakleigh,Yarraville Northcote,Brunswick,Prahran,Moorabbin at Linton Street was a shocker and Geelong West were all hudheaps at various times and far worse than Willy is ATM.
I remember wearing rubber boots to a game at Dandy in the 1970s it was that bad
The two best grounds by far were Sandy and North Port but nowadays there both prone to cut up badly.
The history of the North Ballarat Football Club is titled "From gumboots to glory" for a very good reason,
The old Northern Oval was the worst ground ever to play & view footy on.
Love the VFL grand final at Etihad Stadium.
